My 10 Favorite Things

It’s my birthday but I pretty much want to stay 22 forever. I know I can’t be the only one that feels that way, right? Since today’s my special day and while I didn’t really make/craft myself anything for my birthday, I did put together this post about some of my favorite things. One of my most favorite readers asked me to do this. So here we go!

This random list includes some of my favorite things around the house, from sewing to cooking, to board games. A lot of these favorites are gifts we got for our wedding or past Christmas presents. I use a lot of them everyday or atleast every week. These favorites help make our house a little more home-y.

My 10 Favorite Things

  1. Cricut – I have one like this except its not wireless. I just started experimenting with vinyl and it’s getting easier and easier to use. It’s a crafting must for me now; I even took it with me when I went home for a few months.
  2. Singer Sewing Machine – This is the perfect beginner machine for me. Maybe one day I’ll upgrade to something fancier but for anyone just starting out, this machine is great.
  3. Singer Serger – My husband gave me this one and makes any project look really professional. It is not really a necessity for beginners but if you’re sewing apparel, then I’d recommend this one.
  4. This Fancy Schmancy Glue Gun Kit – It’s cordless and has adjustable tips. I didn’t even know they made glue guns like that until last week when I got this one (as an early bday gift actually!).
  5. Rice Cooker – I, for the life of me, can not cook rice. Not on the stovetop. Not in the microwave. Only can it be done in this rice cooker. I also use it to make the perfect sushi rice.
  6. Crockpot – I also love cooking in a crockpot and this one is awesome because you can lock the lid down to put it in the car. That is especially good for potlucks.
  7. Electric Ceramic Tea Kettle – I love tea and something about switching it on is so much easier than turning on the stove. It’s also really cute on the counter so I don’t ever put it away.
  8. Ninja Blender – Glorious. I give this blender a 10/10. I love it and its really easy to use and clean.
  9. Settler’s of Catan – Our favorite house game. Everyone that comes over wants to play it. We also have the expansion pack so 5-6 people can play instead of just 4.
  10. Secret Mirror Jewelry Box – Last is this favorite of mine that is perfect for tiny house living. Okay we don’t actually live in a tiny house but this space saving jewelry box is awesome and keeps me organized.

I just invested in the Sound of Music dvd (which I’ve already watched quite a few times) and I feel like these are my favorite things around the house. Comment below some of your favorites that’d make your top ten list.

I’m off to celebrate with my lovely husband. We have a little birthday adventure planned this weekend. Have a good weekend!

I like your list! Hmmm….what would I say were my ten favorites? Sewing Machine, Crochet hooks and yarn, crockpot, KitchenAid Mixer, Cuisinart Griddler (4 in 1 unit, contact grills, panini press, open grill or griddle), Coffee Maker, Kirby vacuum cleaner (I know they are expensive but this thing has lasted me SO long it was worth every penny). Geesh, I can’t even come up with Ten! I haven’t used a rice cooker before, why do you like it so much? Dagne from The Yankee Frugalist.

    • Thank you Dagne! I have a Kitchen Aid too that I love. My mom gave me hers she got in the 90s and it works like new. That’d probably make my top twenty list. The rice cooker is awesome because it cooks rice perfect every time I use it. It also has a quick rice button. I also fail at making rice every time I try to cook it on the stove.

  • Susan Landry

I cannot cook rice either! We stayed at my mother-in-law’s a few years ago and she had a rice cooker and I loved it. Perfect rice every time! I got one when we got home, but clearly not a great one, as it sputtered and leaked all over my counter…sadly, although I returned it, I never replaced it and am back to cleaning my stovetop every time I make it. (I kid you not, I have rice on the stove right now and 10 minutes ago my husband told me it had boiled over!). And re: Catan…awesome! We LOVE board games around here and have loads. Nice to ‘meet’ you! 🙂

    • Thanks Susan! I definitely recommend this one, it’s really easy to clean. I make rice in it all the time and it never makes it out of the cooker! Have you played Coup? It’s another one of our favs!

  • I totally love your electric teapot. It’s so pretty!

I can’t cook rice, either. I don’t have a rice cooker, but I did just get an instant pot and it does the rice perfectly! Yay!

    • Thank you! I’ve been wanting to try the instant pot. Do you love it?

      • Oh yes. It has completely changed my life! And not just with rice!

  • Mary

The Cricut and Crockpot are two on my list as well!

    • I use them both almost everyday! I’ve been making crockpot meals all winter.

  • Terri Keith Wilder

    Love that teapot!!!

  • Brigette Collins

I love my crockpot too! It makes life simple lol!

    • I totally agree Bridette! I like to toss some chicken in there and let it cook all day. It’s the best!

  • A cricut is on my wish list! And that glue gun looks awesome! I’ve never seen anything like that before. Hope you had a great birthday! I just celebrated mine as well 🙂

    • Happy belated birthday to you! My mom sent me that glue gun for my birthday is it is awesome. As for the cricut, I love it. I just watch videos on how to make everything I want and it’s really easy to figure out.

  • Heather

I’ve been on a specific diet since November and I have to say, some of my kitchen appliances have become some of my favourite things very quickly!

  • Happy birthday! Discovered you through the blog fuel facebook group. I’ve been looking at purchasing a cricut after Kirsten & Kelley gave out personalized mugs at the Homegrown Bloggers Retreat. Is it very easy to learn how to use – like so easy a crafting novice could figure it out?

    • Thank you Stacy! I love my Cricut. I am part of another FB group for Cricut projects that has TONS of project inspiration and people go to to ask questions. I think it is perfect for beginners. You can watch Youtube videos on how to do everything with it. Cutting vinyl and iron-on vinyl is the coolest and pretty easy to learn. I love it!
